Το 1999 το Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine ξεκίνησε ενα Petition Project καλώντας επιστήμονες να προσυπογρψουν μια έκκληση προς την Αμερικανική κυβέρνηση να αποσυρθεί απο τη συνθήκη του Kyoto καθώς, όπως λένε, το περιβόητο “global warming” δεν φαίνεται να είναι αποτέλεσμα της ανθρώπινης δραστηριότητας

Το κείμενο του petition έλεγε

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

Σήμερα, 9 χρόνια μετά, σε μια εκδήλωση που θα γίνει στην Ουάσινγκτον, θα δημοσιοποιηθούν τα ονόματα των 31,072 αμερικανω επιστημόνων (οι 9,021 με PHD) οι οποίοι εχουν λάβει μέρος σε αυτό το petition.

Τελευταία όλο και αυξάνονται οι φωνές που εναντιώνονται στις θεωρίες του Global Warming που θέλουν τον άνθρωπο υπεύθυνο για αυτό. Κάποιοι λένε οτι είναι η φυσική εξέλιξη του πλανήτη. Σίγουρα πάντως οι μείωση των ρύπων και η πιο “πράσινη” βιομηχανία πέρα απο τον πλανήτη κάνει καλό και σε όλους μας.
